Frequently Asked Questions
Does the Merlot diffuser actually smell of red wine?
No. Maison Tchin Tchin does not seek to literally replicate the scent of a glass of Merlot. The brand uses the aromas associated with the grape variety as a starting point to create a genuine perfume composition.
Merlot is particularly known for its dark fruit notes, its roundness and the woody notes it can develop. The fragrance reinterprets these with prune, chocolate, mocha and cinnamon, followed by base notes of cedar, moss and labdanum. The result is a deep and warm home fragrance, not the smell of alcohol or a wine cellar.

How long does the Merlot fragrance diffuser last?
The diffuser contains a 200 ml bottle, designed to last for around 4 to 5 months. The actual duration may, however, vary depending on the room temperature, ventilation and how often you turn the reeds over.
Maison Tchin Tchin recommends, when using the diffuser for the first time, allowing the rattan sticks to soak up the fragrance for 5 to 6 hours before turning them over. You can then repeat this process whenever you wish to refresh the fragrance.

How do I adjust the strength of the fragrance from the diffuser?
The rattan sticks absorb the fragrance and then gradually release it into the air. To intensify the scent, you can turn the sticks over so that the impregnated end is once again exposed to the air. Maison Tchin Tchin advises that this can be repeated several times to revitalise the diffusion.
Conversely, if the fragrance seems too strong in a small room, you can space out the times you turn the sticks over. The intensity of the scent also depends greatly on the room’s size, temperature and air circulation.

What is the difference between the Merlot diffuser and the Merlot candle?
Both draw on the same olfactory universe but do not quite create the same experience. The diffuser is designed to gradually and continuously scent a room for several months, without the need for daily attention.
The candle, on the other hand, offers occasional scent diffusion: you light it when you wish to scent the room, whilst enjoying the light and atmosphere created by the flame.
The diffuser is therefore better suited to those who wish to establish a permanent signature scent in a room; the candle is for those who also seek the ritual and ambience of the flame. Both can, of course, be used in tandem.
