The Wall of I Love You: a unique work of art in Montmartre

The history of this wall is as fascinating as its visual appeal. Born from the idea of artist Frédéric Baron in the 1990s, he spent seven years gathering “I love you” messages written by people from all over the world , to form this fresco like assembling a puzzle. With calligrapher Claire Kito and muralist Daniel Boulogne, the work was created in 2000.

Composed of 612 glazed lava tiles, it brings together languages from around the world, from the most common to the rarest, and the red shards symbolize a broken heart that is being rebuilt. In puzzle form, this fresco becomes a timeless tribute to love, universal and multiple. With the I Love You puzzle, Piece and Love continues to explore poetic and dreamlike themes already found in the 1000-piece "Bains Voyons" puzzle.
