Walk, don’t run: slowing down somewhere in the Landes

You can barely see the ocean. And yet, you know it’s there, right behind the dunes. With Walk, don’t run, Julie Schalit, alias Suzie-Q, takes us to the Landes coast, into a landscape where the sand, the vegetation, and the light are enough to make you want to walk all the way to the water.

Created with markers, her illustration possesses that slightly contemplative softness found in several of her designs for Piece & Love. Here, there is no need for a dramatic scene: everything rests on the light, the colors, and that very distinct feeling of the paths that cross the dunes before reaching the Atlantic.

The title, for that matter, sets the scene quite well: Walk, don’t run. Slow down, look around, and peacefully piece the landscape back together over the course of 1,000 pieces.

With a difficulty level of 7/10, you will still need a bit of patience to master the nuances of the sand and sky. Like the other puzzles made in France selected by Kiplé, it is produced in France using 100% recycled cardboard and contains no plastic.

Puzzle plage Walk don't run par Piece and Love

The Landes, just before the ocean

‘Walk, don’t run’ does not show the obvious postcard view of an Atlantic beach. Instead, Suzie-Q chooses the moment just before: the path, the dunes, the vegetation and the horizon, beyond which one can just make out the sea.

It is precisely this that gives the image so much character. The illustration does not really depict a tourist destination, but rather a sensation familiar to those who know the Landes coast: walking on the sand, crossing the dunes and hearing the ocean even before seeing it.

Once completed, the jigsaw puzzle measures 68 × 49 cm, and the felt-tip pen design works particularly well as a piece of art to hang on the wall.

Two landscapes, one perspective

‘Walk, don’t run’ is not the only landscape Suzie-Q has imagined for Piece & Love. In Sound of Silence Julie Schalit leaves the dunes behind for a pine forest bathed in soft light, yet we see the same approach to creating an atmosphere using just a few elements.

On one side, the Atlantic coast and the ocean, which we can just make out behind the dunes. On the other, the silence of the forest. Two very different scenes which nevertheless share the same contemplative approach and Suzie-Q’s felt-tip pen strokes.
